חֲמַטII (cmp. חבט) to knock down.Part. pass. חָמֵיט, חֲמִיט prostrated, kneeling, (as verb) to kneel. Targ. Is. 46:1. Targ. Ps. 95:6 נַחֲמוֹט (some ed. נַחֲמִיט). Targ. Y. Deut. 28:35 חֲמִיטְתּוּן … עבירתא (some ed. חַמִּי׳ incorr.; not עבידתא); cmp. Targ. Job 4:4 דחָמְטָן. (Koh. R. to IV, 9, end חמטת, some ed., read: דמָטַת. Pa. חַמֵּיט to prostrate, subdue. Targ. Ps. 17:13. Ib. 18:40 Reg. (ed. תברתא). Af. אַחֲמִיט same. Ib. 78:31. Ithpa. אִיחֲמַט to knock against, be battered. Sabb.54b דלא לִיחַמְטָן אליתייהו Ms. M. (ed. incorr.) that their tails may not knock against (the rocks , Rashi; Ar.: ‘may not ulcerate; v. Syr. חמטא pustula, ulcus, P. Sm. 1303; v. preced.).
